Almost to Ramadan

Assalamu alaikum

Ramadan is about a week away as I write this post. A fast or 30 is exactly what we all need right now. In Sha Allah we will all benefit from it. Maybe I should practice fasting before it starts. Maybe...

A beautiful Nasheed

Ma Sha Allah, this is a beautiful Nasheed by Sheikh Ahmad Al-Ajami

This is what he said in the beginning (though I couldn't understand the first sentence. Does anyone know what "عروة عروة" means?):
"So the ignorant are doubting the hijab. And they want our sister, of Allah, to go out unveiled, seen by everyone near and far. So what did they say about the hijab? They described it as a tent hung over the necks. And they described it as backward and primitive, and they said that modernization would be it's absence (i.e. removal from society)."

Translation:

Our sister, we have heard something strange!
They have uttered unworthy talk about the Hijab,
They said it is a tent, hung over the necks (of women).
Our sister, we have heard something strange!
They have uttered unworthy talk on Hijab,
They said it is a tent, hung over the necks (of women).

They said that oppression, darkness are attached to these garments.
They said that backwardness & primitiveness are linked with niqaab,
They said that gracefulness & modernization are the absence of it.

They called for the Liberation of women; and compiled books for it,
They drew out a road to immorality, so as to "not waste" youth,
O our sister, they are falling to the bottom; to the earth,
O our sister, they've became low with their illusion, like dogs,
O our sister, this is the howl of spite from wolves,
O our sister, their roars will not even affect the clouds

O our sister, patience will dissolve, by its ocean, all difficulties,
O our sister, you are chaste and are preserved by the Hijab,
O our sister, in you there is determination and integrity and reward.

So Hell-fire is the home of oppressors; for them is the punishment,
And Allah will expose their oppression on The Day of Judgement.
Since Jannah is the home, and what a beautiful welcome back it is!

Our sister, we have heard something strange!
They have uttered unworthy talk on Hijab,
They said it is a tent, hung over the necks (of women).
